I have collected a spring wardrobe that serves my position as a homeschool, homemaker. If you like classic, comfy styles, here are my stay at home mom outfit ideas. I hope you find a few ideas here to perk up your spring closet!

Stay at Home Mom Outfit Ideas for Your Spring Closet

Most mamas like me are always on the hunt for a way to add a little class, while staying comfortable and practical in their wardrobe. These are my two main goals when collecting pieces of clothing. I want CLASS and COMFORT.

In my latest YouTube video, I shared a sort of a look book, trying on different outfit combinations for you. Watch the video here.

Figure out what you like, and then collect pieces that go with multiple different outfits.

For example… I know that I like easy dresses, cotton fabrics and neutral/earth tones.

So, collecting several tops and bottoms in those fabrics and colors that combine in different combinations, and dresses in a color palette that work with your other layering pieces such as sweaters and vests, can give you a wide variety of outfits to choose from without having tons and tons of clothes.

In my wardrobe I have quite a few skirts and dresses, because I know I love to wear those.

You may be more of a pants person, but either way, work with what you love to wear.

Where to shop:

Thrift Stores! –

Thrift shops are my very favorite places to scour for second hand clothing. I love to do a quick browse of my favorite thrift stores fairly regularly, to see what has come in. They are a great place to find those perfect pieces to bulk up your wardrobe for a mere pittance. Many of my favorite items of clothing have come from thrift shops!

If you shop thrift first, you can see what is available, then fill in the gaps with new items that are needed. It’s a great way to keep the expense down.

Online second hand shopping –

Online shops like eBay and Thred Up can fill in the gaps when you are looking for specific pieces and you don’t want to spend full price.

Thred Up has a new service called Goody Boxes that I tried out. You pay a $10 fee, and fill out a questionnaire about your style, then they curate a special box of second hand clothes just for you to try. Anything you don’t like, you send straight back in the same box with label and you won’t get charged for it. I kept the navy blue twirly skirt I showed in the video!

Thred Up also has just about every brand that you can think of, and great search filters, to choose exactly what you want to look for. Everything is priced way below regular price, making it the next best thing to visiting a thrift shop in person!

Here is my referral code to get a free $10 on your first Thred Up order!

Ebay is also an option for online second-hand. Especially when you know the type of item or brand of item you are looking for, eBay can really be great. For exapmple, if you are looking for an American Eagle high-waisted jean in your size, many times you can find just what you need. (Selling your clothes you no longer want is a great way to fund new wardrobe items. See this post 3 Ebay Tips I Learned By Trial and Error to get started.)

Consignment stores –

If you happen to have a clothing consignment store in your area, they can be a great place to get second hand clothing for a great price. It is also a fantastic way to get a little extra money by consigning your own clothes and items you no longer need.

Another way to make a few extra buck on your clothes and shoes is to sell them on eBay. Check out my post all about easy tips to make an eBay beginner successful! —> 3 eBay Tips I Learned by Trial and Error

Small Biz Shops –

The next best place to get clothes from after second hand, is to support your favorite online or local boutiques and clothing shops. They can really have some unusual and not run of the mill clothing items to perk up your stay at home mom outfits! One favorite online boutique for easy to wear, yet adorable clothes is Roolee.

Amazon, Target, Walmart, Old Navy etc…

After you have scoured the above locations for some great, used clothing items, check with your favorite retail and online stores for the rest.

Here is my Amazon Favorites Store, where all my hand picked favorites are in one place. See the section called “Things for Mama” to check out the swim suit I added to my wardrobe this year.

I am also always pleasantly surprised at a few things at Walmart almost every season. I can usually go in and grab a few things that I will wear the heck out of. They have a lot of junk, but there are some gems tucked in, such as basic denim and chambray tops, cotton joggers, easy to wear cotton dresses, etc. You just have to have the right eyeballs to hunt them out.

Putting Outfits Together

When you have pieces that all complement each other, it is so easy to open your closet and gab a couple items and you’re set.

I like to keep things simple for this reason… I don’t enjoy standing in front of my wardrobe and feeling like I’m not sure what I want. When you have carefully edited out things you don’t like and added things slowly in that you love to wear, this becomes very easy.

See Me Try on and put together spring outfits… Watch the Video Below!

A few extra tips for Looking Put Together, Stay at Home Mom Outfit Ideas

I don’t want to look like a frump, and neither do you! But as busy mamas, we definitely need to be able to move and be comfortable. Here are a few of my favorite tips to add “a little something” to your outfit.

French tuck –

A French tuck is when you casually tuck in the front of your shirt and leave the back untucked. This is my favorite way to tuck and I think it looks good on most shapes.

Bandanas and scarves –

Tying a cute, checked bandana around your head, or on your ponytail is a sweet way to add a little interest to your hair, without much effort.

High waisted jeans –

This cut of jeans I find to be very comfortable and forgiving to the middle part, if you know what I mean. Looks extra cute with a French tuck!

Add a vest or jacket –

Adding a structured vest or jacket with a nice crisp shape and some handy pockets to put the kids random finds in, is a great way to add a little warm layer when it is still a bit cool. It can also add interest and structure to a loose, flowy outfit.

Cross body bag –

Remember the days of lugging around a hideously large, droopy handbag everywhere we went? Ugh! I’m over it! I carry a Kavu rucksack with me in my vehicle for all the mama essentials, and then I have a Kavu crossbody wallet to carry in and out of places. I love not lugging around a heavy bag everyywhere! Try it!

Multi-purpose shoes –

Get yourself a couple pairs of shoes that are super comfy, but also super cute. Something that can transition from a dress to jeans to shorts, etc. My go to picks are Chaco sandals and Dansko clogs.

Upgrade your sneaks –

Everybody needs a good pair of sneakers (or do you call them tennis shoes?), but do they have to look so boring? I prefer a pair of sneakers that is a little bit classier, such as these Tevas that have some attractive earth-tone colors and suede accents. I also love these Oboz suede sneakers. They are probably the most comfortable sneakers I’ve ever owned, and are so cute!

A dirt and compost encrusted individual informed me that you were doing a fashion show without the walkway but you could use the geezer ramp but just don’t crash all the way to the highway. I’m always wondering if I’d ever stop if I ever got started. Best just not to start. NICE outfits, by the way and you change almost as fast as one of the thirds as the OX said he had the 2/3rds of my half. Oh well. What’s a nice puzzle on a spring evening. The dirt and compost encrusted individual was going to soak herself and not to waste a hug prospect we did but ending collapsing upon each other, sort of. So THANKS Esperanza! You get the A-PLUS but if you spent real time with o.d. green you might not enjoy it quite as much as you do. But maybe so. Hug all huggable things running about and C Yall SOON! Music was spot on!
