I love to wear my essential oils so that I can enjoy their fragrance and many benefits throughout the day. I also love simple and non fussy jewelry, and a quick crafty project is also welcome! This diy wooden bead essential oil diffuser necklace combines all of those!

BENEFITS OF WEARING DIFFUSER JEWELRY

Have you ever torn the peel of a juicy orange and the peel squirts a lovely fragrant mist? That mist is orange essential oil! It is the oil from the skin of the fruit and holds some of the lifeblood of the plant.

When that aroma hits your nose it travels to your brain. Did you know that your sense of smell is the only one of the five senses that is directly linked with the limbic system, where your emotions live?

That certainly explains something that you could call scent memories. Have you ever gotten a whiff of a certain aroma and been immediately transported to your childhood?

Some oils are especially known for their impact on different emotional issues.

Wearing a piece of jewelry that absorbs an oil and holds it close to your nose throughout the day, is an easy way to reap the benefits of theses amazing oils on a daily basis!

A TIP ABOUT OIL PURITY

Something very important to know about essential oils is that they are not all created equal. My advise, is to not pick up oils in your local Walmart or health food store, for that matter. If you are going the extra mile to use a natural, non toxic product, and want to be touching and inhaling pure, therapeutic oils, then you want to make sure of what you are getting.

If you buy a cheap oil, it has probably been chemically extracted, cut with inferior oils or extenders, and who knows how much of the real plant is left.

There are no rules in the essential oil labeling world. A company can say 100% natural, pure, whatever… And be putting total garbage in that bottle. I like that I can trust and see what goes into the making of my favorite oils, and the company has the utmost devotion to purity and high standards. You will be getting what the bottle says, and you will be getting those therapeutic benefits from that oil.

ESSENTIAL OILS THAT ARE GOOD FOR EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

It would be impossible for me to list all the oils that can be beneficial to the mental and emotional state, but here a few that would be nice on a diffuser necklace. (These are Young Living oils and blends in the list.)

  • Calming – Lavender, Stress Away, Frankincense, Gentle Baby, Peace and Calming.
  • Energizing – Peppermint, Rosemary, Spearmint, Lemon, Citrus Fresh, Orange, En-R-Gee.
  • Happy Vibes – Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, Bergamot, Lime, Citrus Fresh, Joy, Tangerine, Ylang Ylang, Jade Lemon.

HOW TO MAKE A WOODEN BEAD ESSENTIAL OIL DIFFUSER NECKLACE WITH A RECYCLED T-SHIRT:

This is a really easy project and takes hardly any time. Perfect for a quick nap-time crafty fix for you mamas!

It is also very customizable, and you could make a long necklace with lots of beads, or a short one like mine, and use fewer beads! You can decide the color of T-shirt for the look you want. Bright or neutral… or a pattern. I went with a neutral pattern and I like the results. But I just got lucky because this happened to be a sleeveless tank that was in my donate pile.

First

DIY Diffuser Necklace with Recycled T-shirt
  • Gather your supplies.
  • Lay your chosen t-shirt out on a flat work surface and straighten it, looking at the shape of the fabric.
  • Look for the longest flat area to cut your piece of t-shirt string from.
  • Cut carefully, a long, straight piece. Make it as long as you can, you can always shorten it later. Use a good pair of fabric/sewing scissors that will cut straight and smooth. (My favorite sewing scissors will be linked below in the “shopping” section.)
  • Trim the ends free of the hem, and at an angle.

Next

  • Use your bobby pin like a needle, “thread” it, by drawing the end of your string through the loop end and hold it like you would a needle.
  • Thread your t-shirt string through a bead, and then hold your string up and cent the bead. Tie a knot on each side of the bead, holding it in place.
  • Continue to do this for whatever amount of beads you wish your necklace to have. Tie a knot after each bead.

Then

  • At this point your necklace is ready to wear! You can add a clasp of some sort if you wish, but I simple tied a double knot. It easily comes untied when you are ready to take it off.
  • Place 1-3 drops of essential oil onto the beads, and allow to absorb. You can give it a rub to work them in.
  • Scent will last varying amounts of time, depending on the oil you use. The lighter and brighter citrus scents tend to dissipate quickly, while some deeper scents, like cedar wood, some florals, etc, will linger much longer. Oils may be layered over each other when you are ready for a new oil, no biggie!
