Howdy sweet friends!

It has been a long time since I shared in this space. I’m excited to be here again! I’m going to share the first week after I gave up social media.

I have been mostly sharing over on Instagram the last year or so.

I have been sharing tidbits from our days there… Little glimpses here and there of what we are up to, what we are eating, making, home school adventures and thrifting hauls. I’ve had a lot of fun on Instagram, and to be honest, was kind of addicted to it.

But that is all changing,

after the Lord really convicted me, to make better use of my time. It was drawn to many of our attention in the past couple of weeks, that social media platforms have really crazy terms of service. The amount of information that is gleaned from it’s users disturbs me. Upon examining those issues, it also became aware to me that I was spending all together too much time s c r o l l i n g social media.

I took a screenshot of my insta homepage just for memories sake.

It’s so addicting!

When you don’t even realize it, you can become so dependent on having that “smart” phone in your hand, and checking, checking. What is everyone saying? Thinking? Arguing about, sharing, where are they going, what am I missing out on? Look at that gorgeous thing, look at that beautiful person, look at that perfect house. Sigh. Share, share, share. Like, like, like. Scroll, scroll, scroll. And where does it get us? I did “meet” some sweet friends there that I will keep in touch with, and I’m so thankful for that!

Long story short, I GAVE UP SOCIAL MEDIA!

I gave up social media. What did I do the first week?

And I am here to report on how my first week has gone. Did I go through withdrawals? Or cry? Did I collapse and reinstall Instagram on my phone? Stay tuned to find out.

paint by numbers, i gave up social media

Here I am, sitting at my kid’s easel, working on my paint my number! I must have survived!

NO, no, no to all of the above. Whoopee!

It has been the best week! I found out I have more time than I think I do! I also found out I still have some brain cells left and that was a pleasant surprise. I’m thinking the use of the smart phone, has created some dumb folks. Honestly, it really effects your attention span and motivation to do other things!

Here are some of the things I found time for this week while I was smart phone detoxing… after I gave up social media:

  1. I started a plan to read the entire Bible in 3 months. I’m on day 7 and have made it through Exodus. I’m really excited!
  2. I started a paint by number I found at Michael’s. It is a pretty winter scene on a piece of canvas. It came with a wooden poster frame to hang it with when you’re done! I linked it here.
  3. Hubby and I made brownies and played Yahtzee after the kids went to bed one night.
  4. I picked up a word search at the grocery store and have been doing one almost everyday when I have a few moments of downtime. It’s perfect for those moments when I normally would mindlessly reach for my phone and scroll. It doesn’t take too much brain power and I love it. Ha!

So there we go! I am not only surviving social media free living, but I am LOVING IT!

I’m so excited to reap the benefits of this decision, and I’m so thankful for God always helping me see when there are changes I need to make.

Here’s a few other peeks at our week…

fluffy paper stars, i gave up social media

We made these gorgeous, fluffy paper snowflakes! I’ll have to share how we made them!

mother culture book, i gave up social media

My latest read…

Here’s a link for this book! Mother Culture by Karen Andreola

our hens are laying, i gave up social media

Our hens are laying like gangbusters! Look at the yummy eggs we are enjoying! If you are local, hit me up! We have too many right now, I’d happily share. And anyone else in love with cooking in cast iron? It took me awhile, but I’m all in, folks.

Speaking of delicious eggs, have y’all tried my Cozy Butter Eggs recipe? You will love it!

And they always taste better cooked in a cast iron skillet!

my hymn letterboard, i gave up social media

I am enjoying adding a line from the hymn we are singing each term to my letter board! This is one of my favorites.

Leave me a comment and let me know if you are on or off of social media and if you are on it, do you think you would ever try taking a break from it? And if you’re one of my insta buddies that I am missing checking up on, say hi down there! I DO miss y’all!

Ta-ta for now!

Love this post I’m taking a bit of a social media break lately. I’m mostly off there apart from checking message from friends (mostly checking in to see how I am since txts cost a bit back and forward from overseas). Though I’ve still been on pintrest which is where I found your website. So far I’m enjoying the break though I did mostly use it for business I’m wondering about wether to or not but I’m sure God will show me what to do etc right now it’s this and a break away from things that made my PTSD worse after I ended up in a majorly hyper focusing on things from autism.

Got something to say, say it! GOOD DEAL, Hopie Pie! If I can’t change something I just don’t bother with it Too old and crotchety to tie up the last 2 brain cells with it.. Somebody may come and haul me off but as Mammy always said, ‘Ignorance is bliss’ and as Pappy said about her waking up in a new world every morning like a duck, I am her son. And any news is just politickal as in when the lips move the lies pour forth. And as far as the Bible goes, Unc. Sr. always said ‘You can’t learn too much’. Keep after it and GOPHER it Just like using a good mouthwash and deodorant; you’ll be glad you did! So will we maybe! (Popsie)

This post makes me soooo happy. I deleted my IG more than a week ago and haven’t been the slightest bit regretful about it. No more mindless scrolling. It’s so nice to read content, watch content and not just scroll for no purpose.

Love this Hope-well done my friend.
